Royal Road
Set in a wooded lot in North Yarmouth, this chalet home was lacking an inviting outdoor space. The existing narrow garden beds were expanded to meet a new granite patio surrounded by boulders that were repurposed from the site. The granite for the patio was sourced from right across the street from the local quarry, and all the pieces were hand selected to create a patio that felt like it was always there. Likewise, the gardens were designed to feel like a lush textural understory with unexpected plant combinations such as dwarf oak leaf hydrangea and carex appalachia. Native pants such as dwarf solomons seal, lowbush blueberry, huckleberry and barren strawberry will fill in over time to create a thick understory blanket amongst the other taller perennials and native shrubs.
