Ledge Road
These playful garden beds were inspired by the massive copper beach tree in the front yard of this coastal home. The clients asked for a non traditional planting style, and to turn most of the unused lawn into garden space with room for extra cars to be parked just off the road. The challenge was to create a cohesive landscape in variable light conditions across the entire space as well as working with plants that can tolerate nutrient and water competition from the existing mature trees while also not damaging their root system with the new plantings. By designing the individual uniquely shaped beds to have overlapping drifts using repetitive perennials, overtime as the garden fills out, this will create a sense of rhythm between these leaf-shaped beds. Texture plays a large role in this scene, with unexpected plant combinations such as Astrontia, Actea, and Carex Appalachica.
